What's Logic Got To Do With It?

It is important to realize that no one can live out their worldview perfectly. So, it must be acknowledged that Secular Humanists and Christians may not always be consistent in their thinking.
In the Humanist Manifesto 2000: A Call for a New Planetary Humanism (drafted by Professor Paul Kurtz), is an obvious example of how a worldview can become illogical. Part VI: "The over-riding need of the world community today is to develop a new Planetary Humanism--one that seeks to preserve human rights and enhance human freedom and dignity. . ."
This, on the surface, deserves a standing ovation. However, there is a glaring problem. The Secular Humanist's position (Foundational Presupposition Chart) is that humans:
- Are not created in the image of God and have no innate worth.
- Decide for themselves what is right and wrong, and the "one with the biggest gun" is the ultimate decider of morality.
- Benefit most when only the fittest survive.
The rub, in this case, is that the Manifesto 2000 mentions human rights, freedom and dignity. Each of these attributes has no foundation in a Secular Humanist world. Rather, the proper platform is:
- "Rights" presume that one's worth is given at birth, not earned.
- "Freedom" is a concept only available when there is an understanding that freedom is right and slavery is wrong. The judge of wrong is not arbitrary, selectively decided by someone more powerful.
- "Dignity" is a respect for another whether or not they are able to demonstrate pre-conceived notion of acceptability or ability to thrive.
Often the qualities of character or morality that secular institutions ascribe to are borrowed from a better worldview. There remains in America a "shadow" of Biblical Christianity which prevails because it is True and reveals itself in reality to be winsome.
This does not let those who ascribe to that Biblical worldview off the hook! Note the little "and" in the first paragraph. That's next.
