Already Gone

The Barna studies reviewed in past articles clearly indicate that the Christian foundation in America has ebbed. Perhaps this isn't so alarming, since surveys depend on how questions are asked, and conclusions are sometimes subjective. However, another book by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer, Already Gone, also confirms this. Its message is that we can look forward to a further decline of those who profess to be committed Christians.
- 20% churched as teen, spiritually active at age 29
- 61% churched as teen, disengaged during twenties
How is this possible? The underlying answer is that there is a failure in Christian schools, churches and in families to hitch Biblical Truth to reality. The authority of the Bible has been undermined by many cultural and educational influences, and the inability of believers to address real questions has left a vacancy in the minds of those who want answers.
Do we know how to approach these subjects in a Biblically relevant way:
-
Why is there death and suffering if God is a good God?
-
Why can't people of the same sex who love each other get married?
-
Isn't it better to get divorced than live unhappily?
-
Why does the Bible describe the Creation theory and science describes Evolution?
-
Why is Jesus the "only way"?
-
Why can't nice people who are atheists go to heaven?
-
What happens to people who have never heard of Jesus?
-
Why is the Bible true?
It is not so helpful to hoist the red flag of alert without offering some resources and approaches to change direction! The place to begin, however, is realizing there's a problem, and it has to do with an inability to understand Biblical worldview.
